Immigration advice vs support quiz
The difference between immigration support and immigration advice

This e-learning course is intended for support workers, community volunteers and anyone else who supports asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants.

The reality is that there is a shortage of immigration solicitors and specialist advisers in Northern Ireland. As a result, support workers play a critical role in helping migrants to access information, complete practical tasks, and communicate with relevant organisations.

This course is designed to help you understand the distinction between immigration advice and immigration support. We hope that it will help you feel more confident about providing immigration information and support to migrants while not straying into regulated advice territory.

What you’ll learn

  • The difference between immigration advice and immigration support and information.
  • Who can give immigration advice and immigration support.
  • The impact of incorrect immigration advice.
  • Where to find qualified immigration advisers and other useful resources.
  • Resources for becoming qualified through the Immigration Advice Authority.
